KEVIN SCHAUN SANDERS
FOR U.S. CONGRESS, FLORIDA, DISTRICT 4
On July 4th, 1999, Kevin Schaun Sanders, an attorney and business man, who is an active volunteer and community leader in the Jacksonville/First Coast area, signed his Federal Election Commission documents to formally kick off his candidacy as a Democrat for the United States Congress, Florida, District 4. Sanders was requested to run for the United States House of Representatives by a bipartisan committee of concerned citizens and civic leaders who are troubled with the "goings-on" in
the U. S. Congress in Washington,
DC and concerned about the current representation of the Fourth District of Florida. Sanders was the
first Democrat to seek this seat and to openly challenge the Republican incumbent, Tillie Fowler.
As the leading Democrat in this race, Kevin has been a declared, filed, and fully campaigning candidate since July
4th 1999, long before Tillie Fowler made her public announcement that she would not seek re-election for a 5th term.
Kevin has been campaigning nearly eight months longer than any other
opponent and has developed quite a lead in "grass roots"
support. Sanders was prepared to battle Fowler and was committed to
win this office and push the issues. He believes it was his challenge that convinced Ms. Fowler to abide by her campaign promise of "8 [years] is enough". Though there are many individuals who are now
running for this congressional seat since Ms. Fowler has declared her last term, Mr. Sanders believes the public can see by
his actions who is, and has been, the committed and determined candidate.
The Congressional seat for the 4th District is an office that can be won by a Democrat and Sanders has already forged a broad based appeal with voters who are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. Sanders would argue the public has been mislead about the District’s make-up. Republicans DO NOT have the majority and can easily be defeated by Democrats sticking together and a few Independents joining in.

As the next Congressman for this District, Kevin will address key issues: Keeping a balanced budget; using any budget surplus first to Social Security and the National Debt; establishing medical care for all; affordable prescription drugs for all; restructuring taxesso they are fair to all, not just the few; campaign finance reform; keeping a strong military and raising military salaries; keeping crime down; establish proper funding for the 1994 Crime Bill; increasing funding to schools for education and to teachers’ salaries; establishing a V.A. Hospital in Northeast Florida; expanding I-95 and I-10; preventing tort reform; and eliminating GATT and NAFTA. He is against Governor Jeb Bush’s current "School Voucher" system and against the repeal of Affirmative Action through the "One Florida Plan". He is a strong advocate for Woman’s Rights and Kevin is for the consolidation of District 4 with the 2000 Census for better representation.
Kevin also believes that it is important to focus on young voters and to encourage them to register to vote, to turn out to vote, and to be involved in campaigns. Though this District is quite spread out and should be restructured for better representation, he feels that it is important to be in touch with all constituents throughout the District, and that this elected position represents all of the individuals in all of these counties. Inspired by the late Governor Lawton Chiles, Kevin has traveled to and met with thousands of people and organizations throughout Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, Flagler, and Volusia Counties. He would like to stay in touch with the constituents of all areas and plans to heavily utilize the internet and email for easy access to share issues and complaints. Further, he would like to implement large "town hall" type meetings (as the Honorable Charles Bennett did) in order to allow constituents to voice their concerns, suggestions, complaints, and opinions on the issues and problems in their respective communities. Even Further, Kevin plan to establish the "First Coast Legislative Forum" to allow for an open dialog between himself and the other elected officials within his District. Kevin believes this is what the definition of "Representative" means.
Kevin is a graduate of Florida Junior College (now known as Florida Community College of Jacksonville) and Florida State University, graduating as Senior Class President (1981). He obtained his Doctorate of Juris Prudence (law degree) at Cumberland School of Law on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1985. He is extremely knowledgeable in the law and government, and welcomes the opportunity to bring about improvements in the representation of the people of Florida’s 4th District. Though this is his first endeavor for public office, he has been active on many civic and charitable boards and organizations as President and Chairman and has participated in numerous Democratic campaigns in the Jacksonville area and in Statewide campaigns.
Kevin is the son of Cledith A. and Margaret M. Sanders. His father served in the Navy and Army during WWII and the Korean War. His father worked in retail sales for Sears and J. C. Penney until he retired. His mother was a Teacher for 36 years in Duval County and was a member of the DTU. Kevin still remembers the hard times when his mother walked out on strike to support the Union and all teachers. This life experience is why Kevin has a strong appreciation for the blue collar, working class and the Unions that protect them.
Kevin has been an attorney in private practice in Jacksonville since graduating from Law School in 1985. His practice is diverse, emphasizing litigation, and covers numerous legal fields, handling cases in both State and Federal Courts. In the community, he is an extremely involved civic leader having held the position of President for the Civic Round Table of Jacksonville, President for the Central Civitan Club of Jacksonville, President for Sons of the American Revolution - Jax Chapter, and President for Campfire Boys and Girls Clubs. He is the recipient of a 1999 award from the Civic Round Table of Jacksonville in which he was recognized as an "Outstanding Civic Leader" for his many community involvements. Further, he is a Past Master for the William B. Barnett Masonic Lodge; Active in York Rite; Member of Scottish Rite; is a Shriner with the Moroccan Temple, active on the By-Laws Committee; is on the Board of Directors for the Jacksonville Scholarship Foundation; and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, serving as a youth director for the Acolytes. **RESUME**
Kevin has been
married to his wife, Cammie, for 4 years with no children as of yet.
Both are very active together in their community and look forward to
contributing back to U.S. 4th District here in Florida. |

For more information on Kevin Schaun Sanders and his campaign, please contact him by phone at (904) 388-0510 or by email at KevSand1@juno.com. Additionally, and most importantly, Kevin needs everyone to email his website to all their friends and family, in and out of the Fourth District, asking them to support his campaign and in turn asking them to email his website to their family and friends and so on. The more exposure by grassroots "freemail," the better the chance to win this election.
Kevin needs and is seeking endorsements and contributions for his campaign and he welcomes the people of the 4th District to assist him, so that he can represent the needs the 4th District through his endeavors as a U. S. Congressman. Everyone supports Campaign Finance Reform, but what has anyone done about it. If every voter in this District just contributed $5.00 to Kevin's campaign, there would be no need to request other money from special interests to fund the campaign. Think about it! ***PLEASE HELP***
